I have a confession to make. . .I am a sinner! I know, I know, this comes as a huge shock to everyone. . .haha JUST KIDDING!! In all seriousness, I say this, that I am a sinner, one of the worst! I struggle day and night with things that I shouldn't, I do things I know are wrong, I say things I know I shouldn't, and I think thoughts that shouldn't be thought and if I am not careful it can begin to weigh me down.
Thank goodness for the book of Romans, especially chapter 6! If you have never read it or haven't been there in a while, go take a look! What good news is presented here! Paul is the writer of Romans, the guy who wrote over half of the new testament, one of the greatest missionaries of all time, and yet he writes about sin, his struggles, and the victory over it through Christ all in Romans! I am so happy to know I am not alone in my battle!
The verses that really got me are 6:6-14. Paul says describes how when accept Christ as Savior then we crucify our old self and all its desires with him. Verse 7 is so powerful saying "For one who has died has been set free from sin." What power in such a verse, to be set free from sin! Verse 11 goes on to give us practical application when it says "So you must consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." It is a mindset, a mentality of remembering and seeing ourselves as Christ followers who are dead to sin, but alive in Him!
This makes me so excited every time I come to this passage. Now it must become a lifestyle, a mindset, something I do everyday. I pray that I would have this mindset and allow myself to live for Christ as I should!
